<blockquote><p>Light painting, also known as light drawing or light graffiti is a photographic technique in which exposures are made usually at night or in a darkened room by moving a hand-held light source or by moving the camera. In many cases the light source itself does not have to appear in the image. The term light painting also encompasses images lit from outside the frame with hand-held light sources. The first known photographer to use this technique was Man Ray in his series &#8220;Space Writing&#8221; created in 1935. Photographer, Ellen Carey, discovered Man Ray&#8217;s signature signed by penlight nearly 74 years after the pictures had been taken.</p>

<p>I received today my Green Flash Wand/stick.<br />
<img class="aligncenter" title="Green Flash Wand" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5090/5302900855_3ef9ec38c2.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="333" /></p>
<p>I bought it from Focal price (<a href="http://www.focalprice.com/LF017G/Flashing_LED_Wand_Green.html" target="_blank">link to item</a>) for $1.69. Cheap : )</p>
<p>I took some pictures at my bedroom.<br />
The first one, (top of article), I raised a lot the brightness to let you see some background.<br />
The next photo, was taken at bulb mode, ISO 100, f/2.8:</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter" title="Ghost" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5010/5303490898_b1ea1a0f35.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="500" /></p>
<p>I will definitely get more LEDs/lasers/sticks to play a little more with this.</p>
<p>Question for you:<strong><br />
If you already tried this, what were you light sources?</strong></p>

<p>I have a <a href="http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/canon_50_1p8_ii_c16/" target="_blank">EF 50mm F1.8 II</a> lens for my<a href="http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/CanonEOS400D/" target="_blank"> Canon 400D</a>. I just love that (normal) <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh">bokeh</a>.<br />
Today, I saw at <a href="http://www.newlaunches.com" target="_blank">Newslaunches</a>, <a href="http://www.newlaunches.com/archives/bokeh_filters_give_out_of_focus_photographs_a_solution.php" target="_blank">this</a> article about some<em> bokeh filter</em>. I never had saw that before! There where filters in shape of star, hearts and spirals (see pics above).</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="499" height="282" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2841297&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=1&amp;show_byline=1&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=ff9933&amp;fullscreen=1" /><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="499" height="282" src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2841297&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=1&amp;show_byline=1&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=ff9933&amp;fullscreen=1" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></p>
<p>I started thinking and I decided imediatly to make my own bokeh filter!</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter" title="Material" src="http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/3304/bokeh2.png" alt="" width="500" height="333" /></p>
<p>I just draw a circle using the lens cap in an old Repsol card : )</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter" src="http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/3585/bokeh3.png" alt="" width="500" height="333" /></p>
<p>With help of an 1€ coin I draw a circle, made an star, e cut it!<br />
I placed my home made filter in front of the lens (like a regular filter).</p>
<p>I didn&#8217;t have the opportunity to test it more. I just went to my street and took a photo (a live in a small village, so don&#8217;t expect that many lights!!)</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter" src="http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/1377/bokeh4.png" alt="" width="500" height="333" /></p>
<p>I didn&#8217;t used any tripod, so the image is a little blurred!</p>
<p>Tip: This was my first attempt to make a filter. I&#8217;m guessing that higher the distance between the filter and glass more accurate will be lights (at photo) to the shape of the filter.</p>
